INTRODUCTION TO STAINED GLASS

In this 5-week class you will complete at least two projects, one using lead and the other using copper foil. The instructor will provide a simple pattern for the first (leaded) project and the student can find or create a simple pattern for the foiled piece. Emphasis will be on learning proper techniques which can be applied to any and all projects as interest grows.

For the first class, the instructor will provide materials and students may use his tools. The instructor will then discuss what tools the student will need from the second class onward. The investment for basic tools can run approximately $75 or more depending upon the tools. The instructor will have suggestions for sources for tools. The student will be able to use some of the instructor's tools during the course of this class. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

INTERMEDIATE STAINED GLASS

Building on existing knowledge, students will choose their next project(s) and proceed with instructor's help. We'll build on existing knowledge and have some fun. An introduction to stained glass course or about a year of experience is required.

PLASTIC UPCYCLING CRAFT WORKSHOP

Participants (ages 8 and up) will enjoy learning how to make a durable fabric out of plastic bags and wrappers. All needed supplies are included but if you have saved particular wrappers from your household, please bring them into the workshop. Learn hands-on creation of an upcycled project. After the plastic fabric is created, you may glue, sew, draw, or cut to create a take-home project (collage, wallet, or pocketbook).

MEET YOUR SEWING MACHINE: A HALF-HOUR TABLE RUNNER

Have you had that sewing machine sitting in a closet since your mother gave it to you? Do you have no idea how to do anything with it? Does it still work? This class will show you how to thread your machine and get you comfortable with using it. No stress....promise!

Students must bring a working sewing machine that they are familiar with.

Bring two 1/2 yard pieces of complementing fabric and coordinating thread and we'll use that new confidence to make a 16' x 40' table runner.

BEGINNING KNITTING FOR ADULTS

In this class you will learn the basics of knitting. You will learn how to cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and bind-off in order to complete your project. Topics will include reading yarn labels, understanding gauge, and the various types of needles. We will work on a small project together to learn the basic techniques, with help available for those ready to move on to something bigger.

Please bring your own: US 8/5.0 mm needle (straight or circular) and one skein worsted weight yarn (recommendation: Lion Brand Wool-Ease) in a light, non-variegated color.

BEGINNING CROCHET SOCK

Socks are hot and not just for knitters! Crochet socks are quick and easy. In this class you will learn how to make socks using all the wonderful sock yarns available. You will learn the basic anatomy of sock construction to make a pair of socks

Please bring your own: US size A/2.00mm crochet hook and approx. 400 yards of fingering/sock weight yarn (recommendation: Lion Brand Sock-Ease). Skill Level: Intermediate; must have basic crochet skills.

METAL CLAY SILVER JEWELRY WORKSHOP

Come and make pure silver jewelry without hammering or soldering! PMC® (Precious Metal Clay ®) is a clay-like material made of extremely tiny particles of pure silver, water and a nontoxic binder. You will learn the basics of working with metal clay by rolling, stamping textures, cutting, finishing, adding patinas and polishing the pieces you make. When the PMC is dried and fired in a kiln, the binder burns away and you are left with pure silver piece of jewelry. All the materials will be provided. You will be able to make 2-3 pairs of small earrings or a couple of small pendants to keep or give away as gifts. A materials fee of $45.00 will be collected at the beginning of class. No experience is necessary to make professional looking jewelry and have fun doing it!

COLORFUL OUTDOOR PLANTER

Design a colorful planter that will make your outdoor space "POP"! We'll cover (and weatherproof) a planter with your choice of papers, fabric, skeleton leaves, or even found objects. Feel free to bring any materials you would like to experiment with. The instructor will also have plenty of supplies.

PLAY BALL BABY QUILT

Bright, primary colored balls on this 37' x 37' baby quilt represent a happy part of childhood for all children. This pattern will introduce you to the art of paper piecing a project - a great way to use up any scraps you have handy. A material list will be supplied at registration. Level: Beginner

GLASS BEADMAKING WORKSHOP: SESSION I

This fun class will introduce students to the art of flameworking, a technique for melting colored glass with a torch. Students will learn to make stunning glass beads from start to finish, including basic flamework techniques such as making stringers, dots, and layering. Students will leave with several hand-made, patterned beads.

GLASS BEADMAKING WORKSHOP: SESSION II

Build on the skills learned in Session I and become more proficient with the medium of glass flameworking. Learn more advanced skills such as raking and cane, and make more detailed patterns. Leave with several beads, a small sculpture, or a beautiful pendant. Expect to have fun!

HAND BUILDING POTTERY CLASS

Spring is quickly approaching, where everything comes alive, both our senses and our gardens. LET'S CREATE FOR THE GARDEN!! For the next five weeks, focus will be on the outdoor flower gardens. We will explore the many pottery accessories for the gardens such as leaf butterfly baths, planters, toad stools, bird feeders, personalized stepping tiles, garden markers, garden stools and much, much more.

These projects will be created using hand building techniques such as slab, pinch and African coiling. We will also explore a few techniques on surface finish, including carving, painting and glazing. Join with your ideas and imagination and let's have fun!

BASIC CAKE DECORATING

Learn the art of decorating cakes for birthdays, graduations and other theme cakes. This class will teach students about cake leveling, torting, coloring and frosting cakes. Students will also learn the various textures of frosting needed to create cake borders and flowers. Piping techniques will be taught to create amazing designs to enhance your sugar arts skills.

CREATIVE CARDMAKING

Want to be creative but not really sure where to begin? Explore your crafting ability with Stampin Up! Card making. You will be amazed at how easy making beautiful cards can be. Each class will begin with a step-by-step demonstration utilizing rubber stamping, die cutting, and paper laying methods. Participants then may construct the cards as demonstrated or use their own creative flare. Join us for a relaxing afternoon and impress your family and friends with your card making talents. Two different designs (four cards total) will be featured at each class. Feel free to come to one or both.

DESIGNING THE ARTIST BOOK

Zachary Gedelman will hold a workshop on creating artist books. Participants will explore the history of artist books; make a simple thread-bound artist book; explore methods of generating verbal material; and begin constructing the outside of the book and illustrating the book with watercolor washes. BEACH BAG

Use a colored mesh fabric with fun summer colors to make this 16 1/2 x 13 1/2 tote for the beach. A perfect size for children to collect shells and stones in or to carry a book and a drink for you to have on the beach. The mesh will let the sand go right out the bottom. Level: Beginner

FRENCH BRAID QUILT

A French Braid quilt is a variation of a log cabin quilt using strips and cornerstones. Many find them to be one of the easiest and most interesting quilts to make. This 70'x 93' quilt can be done in shades of your favorite colors. A material list will be supplied at registration. Level: Advanced Beginner

PERSONALIZED TILE COASTERS

Bring your own special photos: family, animal companions, trips or children. We'll design a set of 4 colorful tile coasters that are sure to be favorites—and great conversation pieces.

You can bring anything you'd like to design your tiles: photos, words, special papers. If you want to put a photo on the tile, make a copy of the photo, so you can keep the original. (You might want to bring 2 copies in case you need it.) The tile is 4X4, so make sure whatever you bring will fit on a tile this size. You can make each tile the same or make 4 different looks. The instructor will have lots of papers to choose from, too.

GLASS-ON-GLASS MOSAIC

We'll make a modestly sized mosaic piece – about 8 x 10 - using colored glass bits glued to a clear glass base. Students may bring design ideas and instructor will have some to share also. If time permits, we'll grout the pieces to make a stained glass effect. Students should bring any mosaic tools they already have, especially tile nippers. Safety glasses are required; gloves are optional.

GATHERED TABLE RUNNER

This simple but sophisticated 43' x 16' table runner features alternating rows of gathered and quilted strips. A perfect use of 2 1/2 strips, especially a jelly roll. A material list will be supplied at registration.

This class is open to kids at all knitting levels, from beginner to advance. In this class, beginners will learn to cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and bind-off in order to complete a small colorful project. Kids who already have some knitting knowledge will learn how to read a pattern and techniques to complete a fun knitted toy.

Please bring your own: US size 2/2.75mm double point needles or 40" circular for magic loop and approx. 400 yards of fingering/sock weight yarn (recommendation: Lion Brand Sock-Ease). Skill Level: Intermediate; must have basic knitting skills.

SOAP-MAKING (Cold Process)

Want to learn how to make soap from scratch? Curious about the cold process? Then this is the perfect class for you! Learn from Cathy Coutu, owner of Woodland Forest Soap, known for her organic and goat milk soaps. Cathy will teach you how to create your own soap, as well as important safety guidelines.

We'll discuss how to properly use and store lye, mixing lye and water, oils for soap making, fragrance oils, essential oils, superfatting, additives and exfoliants, molding and curing. Students will receive soap recipes and information on favorite places to buy soap making supplies and equipment. Favorite soap making books will be displayed. We will make a batch of soap as a class. Each student will take home soap to enjoy! You will reach a level of comfort so that you can make soap by hand at home.
