THE BIG PICTURE: CREATING A PAINTED MURAL
You do not have to be an artist to take this workshop! This 6 day workshop (30 hours altogether) is designed to guide you through the entire experience of mural making. Each day will take you through the process, step-by-step, from start to finish. The mural workshop will be a collaborative hands-on experience, and will include discussions, taking photographs of the site, sketching, and learning how to scale up and transfer sketches to the wall. The workshop will culminate in a completed painted mural on the wall of the Palmer Package Store on North Main Street (Route 20). Everyone who takes part will have their name on the wall. The mural will be large-scale. Materials used will include water-based paint. Bring lunch on weekends. Minimum of 6 participants to run this class.
Days 1 & 2: Overview of the workshop; discussion of the Palmer site; brainstorm an appropriate theme for the wall; create large scale sketches for the mural from visual sources (photographs)
Days 3 & 4 and 5 & 6: Grid and draw design on the wall; paint the mural.

WORD AND IMAGE
In this class, we will be using poetry and prose to prompt a creative, individual response. Participants will paint or draw an image that was stimulated by something that they read, using any the following media: drawing in chalk, pen & ink, or pencil; painting with watercolor or acrylic; collage using acrylic (easier for gluing). Each participant is responsible for choosing their medium to work in and to bring materials to each class. The goal is to create a work in each class.
